It was a long winter - كان شتاء طويلا

In reflection of the Arab spring, one afternoon over a cup of tea, the artists in this performance had a sarcastic discussion, many questions, fears, doubts… “that this spring is in fact going to be a long winter” . In this moment the idea of the production started, and we went each in his/her own way contemplating, observing and analyzing trying to determine and create an image of the future. Ironically we found ourselves in the opposite direction, 1964 in the 1001 nights of love in Vienna, fading into the coup d'états, the voices of the poets, the energy of the student council movements, and the subliminal transformations and the increasing oppression under the emergency law that became so normal in our daily life, and the knock down, followed by many knock downs  recalling the wet monkey theory, we came into the realization that it was such a long winter.

Everyone imagined this revolution as his own, similar to Abu Azizi's.

Likewise the desperate character in Al Dictator by the Lebanese playwright Issam Mahfouz that starts with a similar dreamy revolution, in this eye opener piece we fantasize and explore dictatorship.

One dreamt the revolution back in the sixties and in 2010 somebody unwillingly sparked a revolution.

في عصر يوم ما بعد الربيع العربي, الفنانين المشاركين في هذا العمل كانوا يتخيلون المستقبل، العديد من الأسئلة , المخاوف و الشكوك,  ان هذا الربيع ليس ربيعا بل سيكون شتاءاً طويلاً.

 في هذه اللحظة بدأت فكرة هذا المشروع,

و ذهب كل واحد في طريقه, يفكر ,يراقب و يحلل, ليحسم و يكون صورة للمستقبل, و من سخرية القدر, وجدنا انفسنا بالاتجاه المعاكس, عام 196 في ليالي الأنس في فيينا, بعدها الانقلابات العسكرية, أصوات الشعراء, طاقة مجالس الطلبة, التحول الغير مباشر, و القمع المتزايد من المعيشة تحت قانون الطوارئ الذي اصبح جزء من حياتنا اليومية المعتادين عليها. سقوط بعد سقوط بعد سقوط يذكرنا بنظرية القرد المبلل, حتى وصلنا الى النتيجة انه كان شتاء طويل.

 كل منا تخيل هذه الثورة كأنها ثورته الخاصة. مشابهة لثورة ابو عزيزي.

مسرحية الديكتاتور من تأليف اللبناني عصام محفوظ تبدأ بثورة لشخصية مشابهة. في هذا العمل, نلعب لعبة عصام محفوظ الديكتاتورية. أحدهم حلم في ثورة أيام الستينيات والآخر أطلق شرارتها في 2010
